Giorgio Rizzarelli (urbania70) performs a piano jazz interpretation of the theme from the 2nd movement “Adagio” of “Concierto de Aranjuez”. Composed in 1939 by Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-99). The composition is an interesting crossover of Spanish and Classical music and, in the original version, a dialogue between classical guitar and orchestra instruments (interestingly, Rodrigo didn’t play acoustic guitar for he was blind, but piano). It was inspired by the sounds of nature in the gardens of Palacio Real de Aranjuez, still a residence of King of Spain, near Madrid. The melody develops on the natural minor scale, typically Spanish, and some other unusual scales. The piece is very popular in Spain, but has also world popularity. Many artists, often in jazz, did their own version. In my jazz interpretation I put also some Middle-Eastern scales (after all Spain had Arab influences). I apologyze for transporting it from B to C, where I’m more familiar with scales, but well, it’s a jazz interpretation. He also toured with Whitney Houston. On her song I Will Always Love You, sax solo is by Whalum.

Contemporary jazz artist, saxophonist, and vocalist Walter Beasley has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and has been mentoring music students as a Berklee College of Music professor for more than 20 years. He is sometimes referred to as "the heir to Grover Washington’s throne," and with good reason. Since 1998, Beasley has been one of the top five best-selling African-American saxophonists in the world. As a result, his works as a saxophonist and singer, a unique combination by any measure, are unmatched in sales and airplay.

He is known as an accomplished performer/writer and an icon of contemporary jazz, having performed with the best in the business including Brian McKnight, Gerald Albright, George Howard, Art Porter, Stephanie Mills, Vanessa Williams and Rachelle Ferrell, and has opened for greats Art Blakey and Dexter Gordon. Over the last three decades, Beasley has been a regular presence in the top 20 of Billboard’s contemporary jazz charts, and he recently peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts with his album For Her (Heads Up), which soulfully chronicles the bittersweet landscape of love and romance.

Stella By Starlight (reharmonised). Loosely based on a reharmonised lead sheet by Andy Laverne that I saw in an old Keyboard Magazine. It is just one play through of the song. I tried to make it as simple to play as I could. There are several other versions on Youtube by Lot2learn and 7notemode that are excellent. This was played in free time, and I had to adjust the measures to suit the 32 bar scheme known by most pianists who play the tune. This is difficult sometimes to get an accurate repesentation of what was played.
